Steroids not uncommon among youth

(tdnews.com) Steroid use. Performance-enhancing drugs. To many people, these medications sound foreign, and more frequently associated with professional athletes and Olympians. To many parents, the thought that their child may have tried these drugs sounds ludicrous and impossible.

 

Unfortunately, this is not the case. Most adults who will use performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) long-term begin between 22 and 24 years of age. Surprisingly, about 2 percent of high schoolers in the U.S. report use of anabolic steroids in the past year. About half of these teens say they used steroids for athletic reasons. However, the stereotype that only athletes use these drugs in high school is absolutely incorrect. Many teens say they tried PEDs to be in better shape overall. And while many young women have tried PEDs, the more common market is teenage boys…
