\nOlympic athletes have condemned the Enhanced Games \u2013 a controversial new sporting event where competitors are encouraged to use performance-enhancing drugs \u2013 warning it could result in long-term health consequences or even deaths.<\/p>\n
In a joint statement issued Tuesday, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) athletes\u2019 commissions called the Enhanced Games \u201ca betrayal of everything that we stand for\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cPromoting performance-enhancing substances and methods sends a dangerous message \u2013 especially to current and future generations of athletes,\u201d the statement read. \u201cSuch substances can lead to serious long-term health consequences \u2013 even death \u2013 and encouraging athletes to use them is utterly irresponsible and immoral. No level of sporting success is worth such a cost.\u201d<\/p>\n
