Scientists at UCLA’s Olympic Analytical Laboratory turned their sophisticated analytical capabilities for testing athlete samples for performance-enhancing drugs to conduct research examining the U.S. meat supply as part of a study led by Texas Tech. The laboratory, which typically searches for prohibited substances in urine and blood samples from elite athletes, took part in a comprehensive, year-long surveillance study funded by the Partnership for Clean Competition examining beef, pork and chicken purchased from retail outlets across eight U.S. cities.
