After months of investigation comes a huge hindrance for the doping black market, with an operation that resulted in the seizure of millions in assets and the dismantling of a distribution network in Serbia, with the alliance of the World Anti-Doping Agency celebrating the success.

WADA recognised and congratulated the Anti-Doping Agency of Serbia (ADAS) on Wednesday in a statement for the major dismantling of a criminal network dedicated to the production and distribution of doping substances. The operation, the result of close collaboration between the Serbian authorities and international organisations, resulted in the seizure of 3,000 kg of banned substances worth more than $3,12 million (€3 million).

Closely linked to this investigation is WADA’s European Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Project, which since its inception has led more than a hundred investigations in almost 50 countries. As a result of specialised training offered by this programme, two ADAS investigators established contact with the Serbian Ministry of the Interior, which triggered a series of operations against illegal doping trafficking. Over the course of a year of joint work, national authorities were able to identify and bulldoze a gang that was importing and commercialising doping agents throughout the region.
