Continuous efforts of speakers of Sports Medicine Association of Serbia seems to be slowly showing its first results, since 40% of our best athletes recognize substances which can improve athletic performance which are not on the Prohibited List. What remains a problem is that most of the athletes (80%) did not know that consuming creatine is not recommended under 18, and that only works in sports where explosive power is required, as in sprinting and strength and power sports. Caffeine is still not perceived as significant ergogenic supplement, although 15% to 18% athletes recognize its effects on sports performance. Caffeine is also one of the supplements that is not recommended in the age under 18, but the general presence of caffeine in drinks is not easy to avoid. It is interesting that 15 to 25% of athletes take protein supplements without analyzing the daily food intake. Take home message is primarily related to caution in the choice of supplement for the quality and possible contamination, then taking into account the recommended doses and duration of taking supplementation. Of course, as always, they are particularly drawn attention to inadequate marketing and statements that mislead athletes.
