Over 50 athletes who are fellows of the Ministry of Youth and Sport has passed another in a series of courses that Anti-Doping Agency and the Sports Medicine Association of Serbia carried out continuously. Based on surveys conducted in the voting system, we got analysis of general knowledge related to sports nutrition. Representatives of ADAS and SMAS were talking about basis of macronutrients and concepts related to energy consumption. Half of the athletes (handball, water polo players and bodybuilders) are the belief that their energy consumption is approximately 3000 kcal, although they later realized by calculating that it is over 5000 kcal. This supports the fact that athletes do not know how many calories they consume daily.

It turned out that bodybuilders have most accurate information due to specific characteristics of sport based on daily reading of the literature and visiting websites on this topic.

When it comes to distribution of meals during the day, habits are equally divided into those who, for instance eat breakfast every day before training and one that hates to have a morning meal. Although this is rare to be seen through the diaries written by athletes, it turns out that most of the interviewed athletes have lunch at home as one of the regular eating habits.

Brunch is a very important meal and scholars gave a realistic picture of what the athletes are eating -equally fruit snacks and meals bought in a bakery. Fruit is an ideal solution for a snack, but require extra effort and habits in this respect that does not exist in these young people.

In order to clarify the audience closer to the term „Glycemic index” athletes were interviewed about eating milk chocolate. Namely, it is important to distinguish clearly difference between milk chocolate and sports bar because there are different ratio of macronutrients. Athletes do not realize that eating milk chocolate just before training makes them a boomerang effect in mid-training because reduces glucose and leads to energy loss.

Ivana Baralić, Master of Pharmacy and a member of the SMAS in education of this type addresses the supplementation problem trying to solve some of their greatest dilemma.

Professor Djordjevic Brižita discusses the importance of micronutrients and their deficiency symptoms. Calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc are trace elements that sportsmen\’s attention must bear in mind because very often resort to their unplanned consumption. Taking a multivitamin preparations and multiminerals without a deficit in the diet is a frequent topic of sports supplementation, which divides the opinions of experts. Fellows at the end of the lecture received this type of message and adopted as his attitude.

Iron deficiency without anemia is a manifestation common syndrome among athletes and need to talk about it because it can affect athletic ability. It is important to learn which athletes are the symptoms of this deficit in order to promptly respond if they recognize it. Of course it is essential to teach them about healthy and varied diet because it prevents these conditions.
